Vegetable Garden Design Hosting

After yesterday’s article on  “How to Grab Vegetable Garden Design” in terms of a domain name – the first important step after your decision to go for this topic and obviously based on what you have to offer or sell – the next step is to get smart, reliable and affordable Hosting.

Small Vegetable Garden Design

Although we here in Noordhoek, South Africa, are used to rather large gardens – or let’s call it lots of space – and lots of sunshine and warmth especially during the hot summer months, it doesn’t mean that a Vegetable Garden has to be large. To the contrary! There are many reasons for it, however, from what I see from friends and neighbours, most if not all go for a Small Vegetable Garden Design that is easily manageable and can be kept neat, clean and under control as there are many hungry little mouths around here!

What is important when planning a small Vegetable Garden design is that you avoid shady areas and choose a sunny, protected spot. You may then consider whether you want to plant in open soil or create raised beds – which obviously is a protection against some intruders – I saw beds even a few feet above the ground which was a joy for the back! – but also the soil seems to warm up faster and the drainage is better – to avoid stagnating water that can rot roots.

Optimize your Vegetable Gardening not only from a Vegetable Garden Design point of view, but also by recycling your veggie and other kitchen scraps via the earthworm funnel. It takes little time and there are no smells at all… in case you wondered. You just smell Earth… a healthy one. The worms add valuable micro organisms to the soil and improve water holding capacity – very important in dry climates and hot summers. Kids just love the above picture and what it stands for; it’s right next to their playground.

In fact, if you have children, give them the daily job of feeding the worms. It’s simple and easy to do and it teaches them responsibility. I assure you, they will thoroughly enjoy this besides learning a big lesson about the power and wisdom of Nature and how each one of us can help sustain a healthy planet.

Why not Vegetable Garden Design?

Having spent hours with both Garden Design and Vegetables this weekend, though not necessarily in that combination, here is a classic case of serendipity: an old online friend pops up on Voip and we start talking… catching up on the past… and guess what he’s involved with?

Of course, with such a colorful topic I’d expect colorful vegetable pictures and tons of photos and imagination-triggers that talk more than the famous 1000 words… like the ‘pseudo-vegetable’ protea above that takes itself for one of those gorgeous cauliflowers that never know whether they are decorative or eatable… and as my vegetable garden got eaten by porcupines and antilope that’s as close to the topic of  “vegetable garden design” that I can get imagewise today!

Which depends on how much we apply ourselves to the task… which depends how much we really want to focus on it.

Monkey Valley Resort in September

Cape Town, South Africa, is getting ready for spring… and naturally we asked Dumi Sakuinje what’s planned at Monkey Valley Resort for the new season, starting 1 September 2010?

Check out the brief projection below, recorded on a sunny but pretty windy afternoon – with nothing but the last few feet left on a NIKON Coolpix P90 digital camera – high up at Monkey Valley Resort’s gem, the “Crowned Eagle”, on what’s to be expected in terms of September Entertainment at the beautiful beach resort.

This little movie was edited in Camtasia Studio Pro with no really efficient tool to eliminate the background noise the amazingly sensitive microphone of the digital camera had captured. It is only 1 minute 35 seconds long and was produced in High Definition for YouTube. . . where it’s currently loading. It will take a couple of hours with our slow Internet connections… but here come some interesting details for those interested in movie productions for online presentations and YouTube.

Monkey Valley Resort in September

As we are still testing the best conversion and production formats, my experience with “Monkey Valley Resort in September” was the following:

My NIKON Coolpix P90 is normally set to produce digital photos in 3000 x 4000 size. I did not change these settings to 16:9 for instance. I kept all 3×4.

Camtasia Studio Pro

When starting a new project in Camtasia Studio Pro we are asked to select our format preferences.

As I plan to load the movie in HD to YouTube, I selected 1280 x 720 – which immediately reduced the original images on my Camtasia editing screen, leaving me with a large black frame around the picture.

Once the clip was edited, I published it with my personal settings – which again are YouTube/HD, meaning 1280 x 720.

The result was the display you see in the top picture here. Length: 1:35 min, 30frames per second, 214 MB.

Hmmm… I found this pretty heavy for a tiny clip like this… but I remembered that in a previous discussion it was mentioned that the whole black frame counts in terms of ‘weight’ – at least, that’s what I had understood.

Accordingly, I decided to experiment and try another version:

I did not touch the edited movie, but changed the initial settings in Camtasia to the original size I filmed it, 640 x 360 (4×3). . . but then chose the same format for YouTube/HD, meaning 1280 x 720. Being aware that I changed the 4×3 to a 16:9 … I just wanted to see the result. One never knows unless one tries… and this is not the end of the story yet :)

However, now I got double the weight: 452 MB, same time 1:35 min and 30 frames per second.

What I like here is that the picture will be seen at maximal height as demonstrated on the second screenshot above, the way Camtasia plays the movie straight after publishing.

Of course, I’d prefer to have it lighter … without losing any quality. Maybe I will get there in the next shot. . .

23% loaded… 253 minutes remaining on YouTube – duhh… what would I do with 10 minutes???
